Why I’m Planning a Low Spend Year for 2025

Hey girl, let’s talk about turning 2025 into a low spend year! Have you seen this economy?

I know, I know—it’s that time of year when social media is buzzing with talk about "no spend years." But over here, we’re all about balance. Life is meant to be lived, no matter what chaos is happening around us. Let’s dive into why I’ve decided to embrace a low spend year, and how I’m setting myself up for success with realistic goals that prioritize stewardship and intentional living.

Why a Low Spend Year?

The decision to make 2025 a low spend year isn’t about deprivation. It’s about being a better steward of the resources God has blessed me with. It’s also about being intentional with the plans and ideas He’s placed on my heart.

Take today, for example: we just bought a second car. I’m incredibly grateful for the ability to do so, but the thought of another car payment? Not exactly thrilling. However, with me returning to work outside the home, reliable transportation is non-negotiable. This decision got me thinking about our finances and how to approach them more strategically in the coming year.

Aggressive Debt Repayment Goals

Although we’re not drowning in debt, I want to tackle what we have with laser focus. Here’s the plan:

  • Pay off our current car loan in six months (or less!).

  • Make double payments on the new car loan to reduce the principal significantly by year’s end.

By the end of 2025, my goal is to have our new car’s balance down to $25,000-$28,000, making it easier to refinance at a lower rate.

    Investing Intentionally

I’ve known for a long time that investing is essential. Whether it’s index funds, ETFs, or other long-term vehicles, it’s all about consistency. In 2025, I plan to:

    • Aggressively contribute to our investment accounts.

    • Build a solid financial safety net as we plan for the future.

I’ll also be sharing investment tips along the way, so stay tuned for those!

    Spending with Purpose

A low spend year doesn’t mean we’re cutting out all spending. Instead, it’s about being intentional:

    • Hobbies: I’m keeping room in the budget for my love of plants.

    • Professional Wardrobe: As I step back into teaching, I’ll invest in timeless, high-quality clothing that aligns with my style. (Think fewer, better pieces that last!)

    • Experiences: We’re focusing more on family activities and less on material things.

    • Home Projects: While we’ve tackled major renovations, a few smaller updates are still in the works.

    Looking Ahead: Family Planning

We’re in a season of family planning, and this low spend year will help us prepare financially for parenthood. Kids are expensive, and I want to ensure we have as much disposable income as possible when the time comes.

I’ve also told God that I didn’t want to enter motherhood until I was healed and ready—emotionally, spiritually, and financially. While you’re never completely ready, I’m grateful for the clarity this season has brought.

    What’s the Point?

This low spend year isn’t just about paying off debt or saving money. It’s about thriving instead of just surviving. It’s about:

    • Being a good steward over the blessings God has given me.

    • Creating space for the things that truly matter.

    • Breaking free from impulsive spending and societal pressures.

And let’s not forget—I’m also focused on simplifying my business and building a sustainable system that doesn’t overwhelm me. This shift has been nothing short of a blessing, allowing me to show up authentically while prioritizing my values.
